Job Description
Seasoned licensed Sonographer needed for FT help. Must be experienced in both general and vascular ultrasound.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

9. Knowledge and application of individual and department role in external/internal disaster. Knowledge and application of hospital emergency pager process and different codes (i.e., Pink, Grey, Silver, etc.). Able to understand and utilize emergency code and preparedness guidelines.
10. Demonstrate appropriate response to malfunctioning equipment; proper lifting and moving techniques; procedure for reporting injuries/exposures; and maintenance of a safe work environment that is free from clutter or injury hazards.
11. Knowledge of the purpose of MSDS information and location in the department; the procedure in the event of a hazardous material spill; and the hazardous communication plan.
12. Responsible for reporting all events per policy, including sentinel events and near misses. Identification and reporting of medical safety improvement opportunities. Understanding and following the National Patient Safety Goals.
13. Knowledge of the hospital and departmental infection control plan, policies and/or procedures, including standard precautions; hand washing procedures; prevention of exposures to blood-borne/other pathogens and needle stick injuries; handling and disposal of sharps; and reporting of exposure incidents.
14. Knowledge of the procedures to take in the event that smoke or fire is detected (R.A.C.E.); the location of department fire extinguishers and fire alarm pull boxes and how to operate; steps to take when the fire alarm is sounded and the fire is in another area; and department fire evacuation plan.
15. Responsible to report a security incident; knowledge of the procedures to take during and emergency security incident; maintenance of a secure environment related to personal items; and appropriate security of hospital/facility items.
16. Knowledge of the procedure to take in the event of a utility system failure (i.e., water, electricity, telephone, medical gases).
17. Knowledge of safe work habits in a radiation area and steps to take to report an unsafe or hazardous issue in the work area.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures.
2. Assures that good safety practices are utilized for the protection of patients, staff and self.
3. Treats all patients with dignity and respect. Complaints/concerns are minimal.
4. Educates patient, family and others, as appropriate, in regard to procedures the patient may be having. Provides the necessary documentation as appropriate.
5. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work and assures that rooms are stocked with the necessary supplies and accessories.
6. Able to perform the clerical functions of order entry and film sign-out with the use of the computer system as well as being able to file/retrieve films and hang/remove films from film viewers.
7. Covers call and responds appropriately.
8. Displays competency operating teleradiology system.
9. Performs examinations according to workload and as directed by departmental lead or charge person.
10. Maintains professional licensure as defined by position qualifications.
11. Displays competency operating equipment and performing procedures in the department, in the operating room, and on a mobile basis.
12. Always provides written documentation on the requisition stating the reason(s) the exams are being done. Initials all requisitions signifying that you performed the exam.
13. Accurately marks sonograms and assures that the patient and technologist information is clearly visible.
14. Always produces high-quality sonograms and has minimal waste. Exams are performed in a timely fashion minimizing patient waiting times.
15. Displays a thorough knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and positioning as it relates to the performance of procedures.
16. Practices good sterile technique when required and utilizes universal precautions and other infection control practices as appropriate.
17. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
18. Participates in CQI activities as requested.
19. Consistently introduces self and role when interacting with patients and families.
20. Consistently utilizes the scripting both in face-to-face patient/family interactions and telephone interactions.
21. Maintains equipment in good operating order; communicates the need for repair to supervisor, especially electrical and mechanical hazards.
22. Maintains confidentiality of patient information, records, employee records, hospital information system, and administrative information. Respects co-workers’ privacy by refusing to gossip. Conversation between employees and customers are conducted with discretion. Adheres to privacy/HIPPA policies.
23. Shows interest in job, is cooperative, pleasant and efficient, responds professionally to constructive criticism, offers assistance, is friendly and takes time to listen.
24. Knows and follows all patient safety goals.
25. Promptly shows courtesy to all customers in greeting and conversations. Seldom holds personal conversations in front of customers. Only urgent personal phone calls interrupt work.
26. Expresses pride in being a member of our healthcare team. Conduct is a positive reflection on our hospital. Takes responsibility for safety of work and surrounding area. Focuses on the customer’s needs by striving to do the best job possible.
27. Utilizes time clock and does not submit avoidable exception forms.
28. Routinely enters all the required information and documentation into the departmental computer system to assist the department in staying within budget.
29. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

1. Certificate Degree in Ultrasound
2. Two (2) years Ultrasound experience
3. Knowledge and technical competence with ultrasound equipment and procedures
4. Ability to interact with Radiologists in discussing and interpreting results of scans
5. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment, making decisions and directing work and patient flow to achieve maximum operational efficiency
6. In-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology, understanding of the medical terminology associated with various procedures


LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

1. Current Ultrasound License (ARDMS) in Abdomen or OB/GYN
2. Current BLS Healthcare Provider card
